A parking assessment is used to ascertain whether there is adequate parking available close to the site of certain proposed developments. It may be requested by a Local Authority when planning applications are submitted. If the assessment does not demonstrate that there is sufficient parking in the vicinity and that any impact on parking provision would be negligible, the developer may be required to provide extra car parking spaces as part of the development in order for plans to be passed.
Parking assessments appraise existing parking demand and compare this with likely demand arising from a new development or expansion of a facility including any need for disabled persons parking. Data for parking demand at peak times is particularly important.
